The Iraqi Ministry of Oil announced today, Wednesday, October 23, 2024, the restart of the Karbala Refinery after comprehensive maintenance, under the direction of Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs, Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani.
Mr. Hamid Younis, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Refining Affairs, confirmed that the refinery will start producing oil derivatives within days, reaching its maximum capacity, which is estimated at:
- Super gasoline: 2,800 cubic meters per day, reaching 3,800 cubic meters per day.
- Improved gasoline: 2,800 cubic meters per day, reaching 3,800 cubic meters per day.
- Gas oil (kerosene): 2,500 cubic meters per day, reaching 4,000 cubic meters per day.
- White oil: 1,800 cubic meters per day, reaching 2,500 cubic meters per day.
- Heavy fuel oil: 5,750 cubic meters per day, reaching 8,500 cubic meters per day.
During his inspection visit to the refinery, Mr. Younis stressed the importance of adhering to the ministry’s plans and timelines, stressing the need to mobilize all efforts to ensure the continuation of this important economic achievement.
The Undersecretary chaired an expanded meeting attended by the Karbala Refinery Projects Authority and the Korean company operating the refinery, to discuss the final preparations for receiving the refinery from the executing company on December 15, 2024.
